From Iowa to France, the voice of COCO BANS weaves around the globe with pop anthems and intimate hybrid folk songs – the effects of which stay with you long after listening. The American singer-songwriter, having already collaborated with some of the biggest and most promising artists (Lil Wayne, Julian Perretta, Fakear, Kiddy Smile, Jabberwocky), stormed onto the scene in October 2018 with debut single “Make It Up” and a packed MaMA Festival show in Paris.
COCO BANS’ debut EP ‘Fantasy & Parables’ will be released on February 28th, 2019. A collection of songs that explores the internal worlds we cultivate and the stories we tell ourselves to survive. A narrative of 6-parts, ‘Fantasy & Parables’ documents struggle, determination and triumph over a magical folk-gospel landscape. With support from Rolling Stone and Pop & Shot among others, COCO BANS is set to be one of the key breakout artists of 2019.
‘Hell Yeah’ encapsulates COCO BANS’ unwaveringly positive approach to life through a sonic landscape that blends elements of pop and gospel. Using rich vocal layers to create an empowering choir of her own, COCO BANS stays true to the naturally anthemic tone of her voice. With a steady, organic drum groove and soaring overdriven guitars, the production perfectly compliments the previous, electro-folk track ‘Fighting Feathers’ and shows another side to her writing capabilities.
Here’s what COCO BANS had to say about the track:
“I grew up as one of three kids with a single mother. A world of food banks and hand-me-down clothes and the threat of losing all our possessions shaped my perspective. My mom would always say, “We may not be rich in money, but we’re rich in love.” And I felt it all through my childhood. She bought our Christmas presents from thrift stores, every year a new coffee mug from Salvation Army. Now I carry on that tradition with my son and buy a new mug for us every Christmas, to remember where I come from and that it is not the money that makes us, but the struggle, the determination, the love, the perseverance. This track was born from these values – a cry of praise and joy and appreciation – despite what I’ve been through I’m still here. And I’m grateful to be.”
‘Hell Yeah’ will be released on all platforms 21st February 2019, and the upcoming EP ‘Fantasy & Parables’ will be out 28th February 2019.
COCO BANS will be supporting Mike Shinoda at the Zenith de Paris on March 9th.
